Booking time-slot reservation tickets early and knowing when additional tickets are released to the public are the best ways to get cheap tickets to see one of the world’s most famous works of art. All Last Supper Museum entry tickets are skip-the-line tickets. However, all visitors must pick up their ticket in person with photo ID half an hour before entering the museum.

How to Buy Tickets or Book Tours for The Last Supper in Milano

You can only buy tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting without a guide directly from the museum’s official website or by phone. It is not possible to buy an entrance ticket in person from the ticket office at the Last Supper Museum (Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano) in Milan or from any other vendor or venue.

The number of tickets is limited. Many are snapped up by resellers, leaving visitors with the following Last Supper guided tour options:

  • official tours by the museum with an expert guide in Italian or English;
  • guided tours of the Last Supper Museum by a registered tour guide;
  • guided tours of Da Vinci’s Last Supper and further sights of Milan (often better value than museum-only tours); and
  • private guide or small group tours (expensive but nice).

While Last Supper Museum tickets are released in three-month blocks, tours may be booked months in advance. Many guided tours are already booked three to four months before travel.

How to Get Last Supper Tickets Without a Guide

Last Supper Museum Tickets Sold Out

Buying tickets to see The Last Supper painting without taking a guided tour is fairly simple if you know the procedure and book well in advance (and preferably travel in the off-season).

Tickets are only available from the museum — either the official website or by phone. (The only reason to try the Last Supper Museum’s call center is to buy 6 to 9 tickets in one transaction. The available tickets by phone or from the website are exactly the same.)

From the website, follow the link to buy tickets from VivaTicket. Select the link to “Cenacolo Admission Tickets” or “Are you a single visitor or a family group?”. Dates with available time slots or tickets will be listed.

When Are Last Supper Tickets Going on Sale

The trick to getting Last Supper tickets is to know when admission tickets are released for sale:

  • Every three months, tickets are released for a three-month period. Usually, the next block of tickets is released in the third week of the month, a month and a half before the start of the three-month period.

Tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper in Milan go on sale for three-month periods as follows:

  • May, June, and July are available from mid-March;
  • August, September, and October are available from mid-June;
  • November, December, and January are sold from mid-September;
  • February, March, and April are released in mid-December.

For example, on 18 March 2025, all tickets for May, June, and July 2025 became available. (Guided tours may be booked much further in advance.)

Start monitoring the museum’s website in the relevant week to buy tickets as soon as they are released. The number of visitors is limited. Tickets sell out every day and often sell out very fast. For example, on 1 April 2025, the first (and only) slots still available were on the final three days of July.

The process of booking through VivaTicket is a bit cumbersome but the price is right and much cheaper than any other option. It is a good idea to create an account in advance. The whole process is more complicated and bureaucratic than it needs to be. The ticket purchase is only finalized once you have received the numerical code by email.

Note that the names of visitors must be specified at the time of reservation. From 1 May 2025, name changes are no longer allowed. ID cards or passports are always checked when picking up tickets. (Don’t sweat minor spelling mistakes.)

About Free Last Supper Museum Tickets

A step-by-step photo guide with tips on how to book free tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper wall painting in Milan on Sunday.

All visitors to the Cenacolo da Vinci Museum need a time slot to see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting in the refectory of Santa Maria Delle Grazie church. Although admission is gratis, all children under 18 years old, including babies, also require time slot reservations.

→ See How to Get Free Tickets for The Last Supper in Milan on how to make free reservations for children under 18 (and buy cheap €2 tickets for EU youths up to 25 years).

Everybody qualifies for free tickets on the first Sunday of the month. You have around 20 minutes to get them on the preceding Wednesday.

When Is the Best Time to Visit The Last Supper Museum

When is the best time to visit the Last Supper Museum in Milan? From a visitor’s perspective, it hardly matters.

Any time for which you could buy a ticket is fine. The light and climate inside the refectory of Santa Maria Delle Grazie are controlled and always the same. Similarly, the number of visitors allowed inside is always the same.

First thing in the morning is nice, especially in warmer months, as there will be some queuing up to exchange tickets and lining up on the piazza before passing through the metal detectors upon entering the main entrance.

Official Guided Tours of The Last Supper

The official guided tours of The Last Supper museum are a good choice and also a fair option for visitors unable to secure a ticket-only time slot. These tours, conducted a few times per day in either English or Italian, add €10 to any other ticket price. This €10 is also added to free tickets, including children and babies! (It is still much cheaper than regular guided tours.)

The museum’s official guided tours are booked following the same procedure as for tickets-only (explained above), but on the website, select the “Guided Tours” option. These tour slots are released similarly to the single place tickets-only schedule. Tours usually sell out too, but tend to sell out more slowly. Using the same date of 1 April 2025 as for the check above, many English tour time slots were still available in June and almost every day in July.

Book Guided Tours of the Last Supper

Approved tour operators sell guided tours of The Last Supper for time slots not used for the official tour. Many companies sell tours, and the knowledgeable guide will be certified by the state, but the prices are of course higher than the official museum tours.

Get Your Guide has a large number of tours and generally fair cancellation policies. American travelers often prefer to book through Viator.

For the most basic tours, groups generally meet the group organizer on Piazza Santa Maria Delle Grazie, earphones are handed out, IDs checked, and tickets picked up. The guided tour follows the pace set by the museum, including the maximum of 15 minutes with The Last Supper. To be honest, there is not much difference in what these tours offer, although an early morning small group tour or private tours could save some time.

Longer tours, including other sites such as the Duomo, Sforza Castle, or a walking tour, often offer better value than the shortest Last Supper Museum-only tours. (Sometimes longer tours are even cheaper than the 45-minute express tours offered for the Last Supper Museum.)

When comparing offers, always compare the final prices. Unfortunately, “from” prices are often prominently advertised, even if this low price is only available for one ticket for a single time slot six months later. Similarly, a big discount on an inflated tour price that no one ever actually pays is not much of a “saving” either.

If free cancellation options are available, book tours as far in advance as possible. Prices go up when availability becomes tighter. Many guided tours are already booked three to four months before traveling to Milan!

How to Collect Last Supper Tickets

Irrespective of how tickets were bought or tours booked, whether single visitors or part of a tour group, the following applies to all Last Supper Museum visitors:

  • Tickets are picked up from the ticket kiosk to the left of the actual museum.
  • This must be done half an hour before the booked time slot or the official guided tour starting time. (Organized tour groups are guided through the process by the organizer — be on time, it is not possible to catch up.)
  • IDs are checked before the actual tickets are handed over.
  • Travel light — all personal belongings must be left in small lockers at the ticket office and collected immediately at the end of the tour.
  • Only cameras and phones may be taken into the museum.
  • No food, including water or baby food, may be taken into the museum.
